Nashville Family Photographer Fall Style Guide

September 10, 2024

The fall style guide with Lindsay Reed Photography is here!

As I’ve embraced the lived-in approach in my photography journey, the magic has truly started happening! Think about it – can you FEEL a photograph?

Looking back at your photos, I want you to hear the laughter, feel the hugs, and remember the wet kisses and tickle fights. I want to give you photos that will transport you back to a very specific memory and help you bottle up that emotion forever. I don’t want you to look back and think about being stressed about locations or poses or outfits… That’s just not my style! Which is why today’s blog post is all about guiding you as you select your fall family photo outfits.

As a mama of three, I totally get it – selecting outfits for your entire family before photos can be tough. That is why I have created this blog post so you can dress in a way that feels like you for your fall family session with Lindsay Reed Photography! We’re all about cozy and connected sessions around here!

Whether indoors or in the comforts of my Franklin, TN photography studio, I always encourage my clients to lean into the idea of staying cozy. When choosing your fall family photo outfits, think more about staying cozy and comfortable while incorporating textures and color. I always want you to feel comfortable and authentic during our time together which is why I’ve shared some color palettes and ideas for textures and outfit vibes that photograph well.

Think about what you’d normally wear and you guessed it – wear that! Outfits for your fall family photos don’t need to be dressy. You can be casual, cozy, and comfortable. Try to focus more on those comforts and pieces that feel like you when planning your outfits. It’s easy to get caught up in color palettes and the perfect combos, but at the end of the day, we’re creating family photos that will stand the test of time. That’s the good stuff that really matters!

Here are some of my favorite places to shop for mom:

ZARA | H&M | BALTIC BORN | SHOP STEVIE | WORTH COLLECTIVE | RYLEE AND CRU | ANTHROPOLOGIE | TARGET

Here are some of my favorite places to shop for the kiddos:

ZARA | H&M | GAP | TARGET | OLD NAVY | RYLEE AND CRU | AMAZON | QUINCY MAE | COTTON ON

One of my favorite tips to share with clients when planning outfits for photos is this – movement matters. Try to select outfits that allow movement. Incorporating textures goes hand-in-hand with selecting outfits that allow movement. I promise that you won’t regret it when your final gallery is delivered!

Mamas, my biggest piece of advice for you is to dress yourself first and then coordinate your family around that! Pick out your dress or shirt and skirt and then go from there! Dresses and skirts paired with various textures look amazing on camera because they tend to bring extra movement to the photos.

At the end of the day, don’t stress too much about outfits for your fall family photos and have fun! Some of my favorite places to shop always have an amazing selection at a great price point, reliable, and include articles that you’d gladly wear again.

Lastly, don’t forget the very best way to prepare for your family session. While looking great may be important, feeling great is what is key. Instead of focusing on making sure everyone is smiling and looks super put together, focus on what you want your photos to FEEL like. Be ok with messy hair, giant belly laughs, and genuine interactions. These are moments in your life that you’ll never get back with your family. Embrace the chaos, have fun, and enjoy these moments. I know you’ll love the result!
