This might be controversial, but… Summer sessions are a favorite of mine!

There’s just something about summer sessions that seem to capture a child’s childhood more than any other season. They hold memories of barefoot, grass-stained feet, sun-kissed cheeks, popsicle snacks, and countless hours spent outdoors.

I loved spending time with the Halperin family this summer! I originally met them in 2020 when they hired me as their birth photographer for their oldest daughter. Unfortunately, COVID hit, and I wasn’t allowed in the hospital. Ever since, I’ve felt like we needed a second chance to capture their family story. This summer was finally that second chance!

The Halperin family wanted to document exactly what summer looks like for them during these toddler years — full of sprinklers, popsicles, and maybe a few meltdowns (wink, wink). We started the session playing in their backyard before the kiddos changed into their swimsuits and had some fun in the water!

What I love most about these lived-in sessions is that there’s no right or wrong way to do them. Your kids want to sit on the counters and eat a snack? Sure! They’ve got tons of energy and need to run around? No problem. Toddler just wants mama to hold them the whole time? Of course. Obsessed with playing in the sprinkler? Let’s do it!

Believe me when I say there’s so much freedom and flexibility when we shoot in your own home. You’ll be so thankful to have these memories to look back on one day. I love lived-in sessions for this reason and so much more.
