There’s something so special about returning to a family’s home to capture new milestones at a lived-in session. This time, I had the joy of celebrating Mateo’s first birthday with the Minjares family. Just last year, I photographed his newborn session in this very home. Now here we were again – this time marking one whole year of love and growth!

Mateo’s parents had thrown a party the day before, but they still wanted this session to feel like a celebration, while also keeping it true to real life. And that’s exactly what we did. We opened presents, played with balloons, enjoyed some cake, and of course, took a snack break. The session was filled with those little moments that make up everyday life – the kind you want to bottle up and keep forever.

Have you ever caught yourself watching your child do something and just wished you could freeze time? Maybe they’re stacking blocks, singing their favorite song, or jumping on the bed pretending to be a monkey. In those moments, they’re in a space where they feel safe and free, letting their personalities shine. And for just a second, you want to hold on to it forever.

That’s the beauty of these lived-in sessions. They happen where your family’s story unfolds – in the home where you create memories. One day, your children will look back and see the house they grew up in, remembering the warmth, the love, and the laughter. It’s why our own parents feel nostalgic when looking at childhood photos – because those images are real, spontaneous, and meaningful.
