Kicking off the new year with sweet baby Benji was an absolute dream! 

The Garrity family brought their beautiful newborn into my Franklin, Tennessee studio for a session that perfectly balanced traditional and casual vibes. We styled Benji in two outfits to reflect their vision – one classic and timeless, and the other relaxed and cozy.

This session wasn’t just special because Benji was my first newborn of the year; it was also my last newborn session in the Franklin studio before its doors closed. A bittersweet milestone, for sure. Capturing Benji’s little details – his sleepy yawns, his tiny scrunch, and all those precious newborn moments – was the perfect way to close this chapter.

What do you want to remember most about your baby’s first weeks of life?

For me, the little yawns are at the top of my list (along with that irresistible newborn scrunch). When you strip away the distractions, what remains is the pure, simple beauty of your baby. That’s how I’d want to remember my babies – just as they are in those fleeting, tender weeks.

When you hold your baby for the first time, your hands instinctively wander to every little detail. Their soft cheeks, tiny fingers, and curled toes. You rub their delicate hair and trace their wrinkly back as they drift off on your chest. Those first moments are so vivid and raw, full of love and connection.

But the bittersweet truth? Those tiny details won’t stay tiny forever. One day, their fingers will grow long enough to intertwine perfectly with yours, and their little toes will be quick enough to beat you in a race. It’s okay to mourn the passing of those delicate features, but there’s also beauty in celebrating how they’ve grown—every milestone, every step, and every new chapter tells the incredible story of their life so far.

That’s why I believe in sessions like Benji’s. Stripping away distractions and focusing on your baby’s little details—the ones that change so quickly – is so important. These are the moments you’ll want to hold onto forever.
